GROUND-BREAKING RITES FOR THE BUILDING OF THE MSP RETIREMENT HOME

LAST JUNE 26, 2010, the MSP organized the ground-breaking ceremonies for the building of the MSP Retirement Home located at the MSP property in Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu. The event was witnessed by Fr. Alfie Africa MSP, the Father Moderator, Fr Willy Borces MSP, Fr Rollie Detera MSP, Fr Jimmy Cabuntucan, the MSP seminarians in Cebu, the members of Fil-Mission Auxiliary Association (FMAA) in Cebu, and some friends and benefactors of the Society.

The activity started with a procession from the MSP Seminary toward the site. It was followed by the signing of the blueprint by Fr Alfie Africa and the architect, Mr. Wilson Cabahug. There followed the celebration of the Word, and exhortation of the Father Moderator on the importance of the project to the MSP missionaries. He told those present that the building of the MSP Retirement Home is very important, especially now that the members of the MSP are growing older. After they have spent years in the mission lands, there has to be a place where the MSP missionaries can retire, and can call it their home. The Father Moderator hoped that generous individuals can help in materializing and completing this significant project.

After the exhortation, the blessing of the site followed, as well as the blessing of the objects to be placed inside the time capsule. Finally, the time capsule was laid down the prepared hole, exactly at the site where the chapel would be built. After the ground-breaking ceremonies, the people proceeded to the seminary chapel for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Then a lunch was served. 

The activity was also witnessed by some members of the local media. News of this event was published in the Freeman Daily and the Cebu Daily News.
